The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a specialized unit dedicated to the management of critically ill infants, children, and adolescents requiring advanced monitoring and life-support therapies. Our PICU is designed to provide comprehensive, evidence-based critical care in a safe and technologically advanced environment.

The department integrates modern intensive care technology with the expertise of a highly trained pediatric intensivist, pediatricians and specialized nursing staff to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. With a strong focus on patient safety, early intervention, and multidisciplinary collaboration, the PICU provides seamless care for children with complex and life-threatening medical and surgical conditions.

We work in close coordination with pediatric subspecialties, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, and surgical teams to deliver timely and holistic care for critically ill children.

Conditions Managed

Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit provides critical care for a wide spectrum of medical and surgical emergencies, including:

Severe pneumonia and respiratory failure

Septic shock and systemic infections

Severe dengue and other tropical infections

Acute neurological emergencies including encephalitis and status epilepticus

Traumatic injuries including head trauma

Acute poisoning and toxicological emergencies

Acute kidney injury and severe electrolyte disturbances

Severe asthma and bronchiolitis

Metabolic and endocrine emergencies

Multi-organ dysfunction syndrome

Post renal transplant children will be co-managed by the pediatric nephrology, urology and pediatric intensivist in transplant ICU

Children undergoing Hematopoietic Stem cell Transplant requiring critical care services will be co-managed by the pediatric oncology team and pediatric intensivist in the BMT unit
